#8 Reconstructing Data Maps

For this assignment, I focused on the enslaved people in the 1840’s. I primarily focused my data on nonwhite free and nonwhite slaves. I wanted to showcase that the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade was in 1801 and still allowed for slavery to occur. However, the north didn’t abolish it until 1804. In my map, it clearly shows the more heavily populated areas with a darker blue indicating that there was a significantly large amount of enslaved people in those regions. I also put in my pop up how many free nonwhites were in the area. If you look to the north it is fairly light-colored as slavery was “abolished.” The south had a more array of colors as the spread to the west became a conquest on whether or not that state should be free or allow enslavement.
